Answers to Common Questions

Do I need a transformer for my electronic equipment?
The voltage in Peru is 220 volts AC, 60 Hz. Most electrical appliances do not need adapters because they accept voltages of 110 and 220 volts. Check the voltage of your equipment such as hair dryers, battery chargers, notebooks, cameras, etc. before plugging them in. If any of your equipment needs one, it has to be a 110/220 volt adapter that can be purchased in Peru. Sotupa has electricity 24 hours a day, in addition to solar panels and solar electricity lamps.
In what season is it best to travel to Madre de Dios?
In general, the climate in the Tambopata rainforest is hot and humid. However, we have two marked seasons throughout the year, the rainy season that runs from November to April, and the dry season from May to October. It is more advisable to travel to Tambopata between the months of May and October, since the weather is friendlier and drier, which makes them the best times for international tourism. The average daytime temperature in Tambopata is between 82 and 93°F (25 to 31 °C), and drops between 62 and 73°F (16 and 22 °C) at night. During the dry season months, cold waves can arrive from Argentina, causing these temperatures to drop to 50°F (9°C) during the day and 43°F (5°C) at night. For this reason, we still recommend bringing a change of warm clothes during these months. If you wish to visit us during the rainy months (November to April), we recommend always being prepared for heavy rains that can continue for hours or days. This could impair outdoor activities. About 80% of the average annual rainfall of 2,000 mm occurs during these months. However, this average is much less than the 3000 mm of rain that occurs in areas near the Equator.
What should I take with me to the jungle?
In addition to your personal items, we recommend keeping in mind:

• Good binoculars.
• Photo camera.
• Tomatodo.
• Comfortable hiking pants and shirts.
• Swimsuits.
• High rubber boots or walking boots.
• A rain poncho.
• Sunscreen.
• Sunglasses.
• A waterproof repellent.
• Yellow fever vaccination certificate.
• Cash.
